Background

Born in Elkhart, Indiana, Shawn Kemp was drafted 17th overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in 1989 directly from his time at Trinity Valley Community College.

Career

He spent eight seasons with the SuperSonics, including the 1996 run to the NBA Finals against the Chicago Bulls, then played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Orlando Magic before retiring in 2003.

Style of play

A high-flying power forward at six-foot-ten, Kemp combined explosive leaping with mobility for his size, often finishing alley-oop passes from teammate Gary Payton in transition.
