Geography
Aruba lies about 29 km north of the Venezuelan coast and is the westernmost of the ABC Islands. The terrain is arid and largely flat, with Mount Jamanota rising to 188 m. Annual rainfall is among the lowest in the Caribbean.
Climate
The island sits outside the main Atlantic hurricane belt and enjoys steady trade winds and consistent warm temperatures, which support a year-round tourism industry.
Status
Aruba left the Netherlands Antilles in 1986 to become a constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Dutch and Papiamento are the official languages.
