The largest and most populous of Spain's Canary Islands, dominated by the dormant Mount Teide volcano.
Geography
Tenerife is volcanic, dominated by the dormant Mount Teide at 3,715 m, the highest peak in Spain and the third-tallest volcano on Earth measured from its underwater base. Teide National Park surrounding the summit is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Climate
The island’s volcanic spine creates striking microclimates: the north is wetter and cooler under trade-wind clouds, while the south is arid and sunny. This contrast supports both pine forest and desert in a single island.
Economy
Tourism is overwhelmingly dominant. Bananas, grown on terraced lowland fields, remain a significant export to mainland Spain.
