What electrical engineers do

Electrical engineers design circuit boards, integrated circuits, motors, generators, power distribution systems, signal processing chains, and control systems. They work across analog and digital domains, simulate behavior with EDA tools, and validate with lab instruments.

Training path

Most US electrical engineers hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Power and infrastructure roles often require a Professional Engineer license, earned through the FE and PE exams plus four years of experience. Many also hold graduate degrees.
