Geography
Guadeloupe consists of two main landmasses joined by a narrow mangrove channel. Basse-Terre to the west is mountainous and volcanic, with the active La Soufrière at 1,467 m the highest peak in the Lesser Antilles. Grande-Terre to the east is a flat limestone plateau.
