A tropical Asian climbing succulent with waxy leaves and spectacular star-shaped flowers grouped in fragrant porcelain-like clusters, beloved by indoor gardeners.
Description
Hoyas have thick succulent leaves on twining stems and produce umbels of waxy, often perfumed, star-shaped flowers in shades of pink, white, or red on short spurs.
Cultivation
Hoyas like bright indirect light, gritty mix that drains fast, and dry-down between waterings. Old flower spurs should be left in place because the plant blooms repeatedly from them.
Uses
A cult favorite of the houseplant world with hundreds of species in cultivation. Famous as wax flower or porcelain flower, hoya is also valued for the perfume of many species.
