A trailing tropical American aroid with small glossy heart-shaped leaves, one of the easiest and longest-popular houseplants in cultivation.
Description
Heartleaf philodendron has slender trailing stems set with small, satiny, heart-shaped green leaves about 8 to 10 centimetres long. In the wild it climbs trees by aerial roots.
Cultivation
It tolerates low light, irregular watering, and dry indoor air. Pinching stem tips keeps it bushy, and stems root easily in water from any nodal cutting.
Uses
A staple of office plant displays, hanging baskets, and beginner houseplants, heartleaf philodendron has been grown indoors since at least the 1930s.
