Pampas Grass

Cortaderia selloana

Filter:

A massive South American grass with cream-white feathery flower plumes that reach four metres, a dramatic landscape grass and now popular in dried bouquets.

Description

Pampas grass forms huge bristly clumps of arching sharp-edged leaves topped with tall stalks bearing silvery feathery flower plumes that sway in autumn breezes.

Cultivation

Drought-tolerant and tough, pampas grass grows in full sun on poor soil and may live many decades. It can be invasive in California, the Mediterranean, and New Zealand and is regulated in places.

Uses

A landscape statement for many decades, pampas plumes also became one of the most fashionable cut-and-dried decor items of the 2020s for weddings and minimalist interiors.
