Description

Peppermint has square stems and dark green serrated lance-shaped leaves often tinged purple. Stems lined with small pale purple flowers reach about a metre, attracting many pollinators.

Cultivation

Peppermint spreads vigorously by underground runners and is usually grown in containers or restricted beds. It thrives in moist rich soil and partial sun.

Uses

The essential oil flavors candies, toothpaste, gum, and digestive teas. Peppermint is also a longstanding home remedy for indigestion and tension headaches and yields a popular relaxing tea.
