A tropical American aroid grown for glossy green foliage and elegant white flower spathes, one of the most common low-light houseplants of offices and homes.
Description
Peace lily has glossy elliptical dark green leaves and produces a tall white leaf-like spathe wrapped around a slim spadix. Despite the name it is unrelated to true lilies.
Cultivation
It tolerates low light and irregular watering, signaling thirst by drooping dramatically then perking up within an hour after a drink. Distilled or filtered water avoids brown leaf tips.
Uses
A classic office and lobby plant for its shade tolerance and elegant white blooms, peace lily was featured in NASAs clean-air study. Sap is mildly toxic if eaten by pets.
