A professional who collects, cleans, and interprets data to support business decisions.
What data analysts do
Data analysts pull data from warehouses, build dashboards, investigate anomalies, and present findings to stakeholders. They support marketing, finance, operations, and product teams with KPI tracking, A/B test analysis, and ad hoc deep dives.
Training path
Most US data analysts hold a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field, business, or economics. Many enter through internships, business intelligence certifications, or rotational programs and pick up SQL, Python, and BI tools on the job.
Tooling
Common tools include SQL, Excel, Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Python, and dbt. Data analysts increasingly work in cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift.
