What dietitians do
Registered dietitians evaluate nutritional status, design therapeutic diets for conditions such as diabetes and kidney disease, counsel patients on weight management, and consult on food service for hospitals and schools. They also work on community nutrition programs and public health.
Training path
US registered dietitians must complete an accredited nutrition program, a supervised practice internship, and the Commission on Dietetic Registration exam. A graduate degree is required for new registrants. State licensure rules vary.
