Interior designers plan layouts, select finishes and furniture, draft elevations and details, manage budgets, and coordinate with contractors. They balance aesthetics, function, code requirements, and client lifestyle for residential and commercial projects.

Training path

Most US interior designers hold a bachelor’s degree in interior design from a CIDA-accredited program. Many states require licensure or registration; the NCIDQ certification is the most common credential. Some specialize after years of generalist work.
