ZZ Plant

Zamioculcas zamiifolia

Filter:

An East African aroid with glossy dark green leaves and underground rhizomes that store water, one of the toughest and slowest-growing houseplants.

Description

ZZ plant produces upright compound leaves with rows of glossy dark green oval leaflets. The plant grows from fat potato-like rhizomes that store water for long droughts.

Cultivation

A near-indestructible houseplant, ZZ tolerates low light, irregular watering, and dry indoor air. Overwatering is the most common cause of failure, leading to mushy rhizomes.

Uses

A staple of modern offices, ZZ plants tolerate the harshest indoor conditions and have become Instagram favorites. Sap can irritate skin and is toxic to pets if chewed.
