An entertainment producer who organizes, finances, and promotes live music, theater, and dance productions.
What impresarios do
Impresarios assemble creative talent, secure venues and tour dates, raise production capital, negotiate licensing and union agreements, run marketing campaigns, and manage the financial and artistic risk of putting on a performance. They are the entrepreneurial backbone of live entertainment.
Training path
Most impresarios train through apprenticeships with established producers or general managers, often after earning bachelor’s degrees in arts management, theater, or business. Some come up through booking agencies or talent management firms.
Work setting
Independent production companies, Broadway and West End producers, concert promoters such as Live Nation and AEG, touring opera and dance companies, and festival operators all employ impresarios. The work is project-driven with long gestation periods.
