Description
The urn plant has stiff strap-shaped leaves banded with silvery powder, arranged in a tight rosette that traps rainwater in a central cup. A dramatic pink star bract holds tiny pale blue flowers.
Cultivation
Indoors it needs bright filtered light and a small amount of water in both the soil and the central cup, refreshed weekly. Each rosette blooms only once and is replaced by side pups.
Uses
A long-popular flowering houseplant gift, the urn plant lasts months in flower. Its silvery banded foliage is also striking on its own in tropical landscapes.
