Bodyguard

Filter:

A close-protection specialist who safeguards a principal client from physical threats and unwanted contact.

What bodyguards do

Bodyguards conduct advance surveys of venues and routes, screen attendees and incoming items, escort principals from arrival to departure, and respond decisively to threats. Many also handle medical emergencies and coordinate with venue and local law enforcement.

Training path

Most bodyguards complete an executive-protection program such as those at Pacific West Academy, Executive Security International, or the Gavin de Becker training course. Many start with military or law-enforcement backgrounds before transitioning.

Work setting

Employers include private close-protection agencies, corporate security teams for executives, celebrity and athlete personal staffs, and the US Diplomatic Security Service. Travel is constant, and shifts often run long during high-profile events.
