A tough Southeast Asian houseplant grown for its silver- or red-mottled leaves, widely chosen for offices for its tolerance of low light and dry air.
Description
Chinese evergreens have lance-shaped to oval leaves that vary widely in color, from dark green flecked with silver to startling pink and red modern cultivars.
Cultivation
They tolerate low light, irregular watering, and dry indoor air better than most aroids, making them favorites for offices and shaded rooms. Sap is mildly toxic to pets if chewed.
Uses
Chinese evergreens are bred into many cultivars used in interior decoration. In Chinese tradition they are sometimes considered good luck plants.
