A South African daisy widely grown as a bedding plant and one of the worlds top five cut flowers, available in nearly every color but blue.
Description
The gerbera plant forms a basal rosette of lance-shaped leaves from which rise long stems carrying large single or double daisy-like flowers in vivid solid or contrasting colors.
Cultivation
Gerberas prefer rich well-drained soil, full sun, and steady moisture. The crown rots easily if buried too deep. Most modern varieties are bred for cut-flower vase life.
Uses
A symbol of cheerfulness, gerbera is shipped from greenhouses worldwide. Smaller pot-bred forms make popular flowering houseplants and gift plants.
