Tillandsia

Tillandsia

Filter:

A large genus of soilless American bromeliads, including Spanish moss and many air plants, that absorb moisture and nutrients straight through their leaves.

Description

Tillandsias range from delicate grey-leaved air plants the size of a thumbnail to mossy festoons of Spanish moss draped from southern trees. All have scaly leaves and lack functional roots.

Cultivation

Most species need bright filtered light, weekly soaking, and good airflow to dry afterward. Avoid copper containers, which are toxic.

Uses

The most fashionable air plant of recent decades, tillandsia is popular for terrariums, glass globes, driftwood mounts, and lush living walls in modern interiors.
