A trailing Mexican vine in the wandering jew group, grown for striped silver and purple leaves and tiny three-petaled pink flowers in summer.
Description
Inch plant has oval pointed leaves striped silver and dark green above and rich purple beneath. Each leaf is about an inch long, hence the common name. Tiny pink flowers appear seasonally.
Cultivation
Extremely easy to grow and root from cuttings, the inch plant tolerates many conditions. Bright light keeps the colors vivid; dim light fades them to plain green.
Uses
A long-popular trailing houseplant in hanging baskets, the inch plant is also grown as a tender groundcover in warm climates. Sap can irritate the skin of sensitive people.
