A South African trailing succulent with green pea-shaped leaves strung along threadlike stems, popular in hanging baskets for its jewelry-like cascade.
Description
String of pearls drapes long slim stems set with bead-like spherical leaves, each containing a translucent window. White cinnamon-scented brush-like flowers may appear in cool weather.
Cultivation
Bright filtered sun, gritty cactus mix, and a strict dry-down between waterings produce healthy plants. Overwatering is the most common cause of failure with the strings shriveling.
Uses
A favorite of windowsill succulent gardeners and hanging displays, string of pearls is also a top photogenic plant on social media. Caution: it is toxic to pets if chewed.
